Skiing a Colorado 14er in June (watch)

I’m happy to report that people willing to work on their turns still enjoy sliding on snow in Colorado!

The YouTube algorithm served me this delicious video from Nick’s Colorado Channel this morning, and I’m so grateful.

Conditions seem a little rough up there on Mount Evans, but skiing is skiing and this group absolutely is skiing. It’s something that many of us haven’t been able to say for months now.

Nick’s Colorado Channel: “Although the chairlifts have stopped running for the season in Colorado, that doesn’t mean the skiing has to stop. A ragtag team of unlikely candidates head to the summit of Mount Evans in Colorado, which towers over the front at 14,265 feet. Laughing in the face of danger and flirting with disaster, they descend like marauders on their mountain, leaving behind them a trail of powdery dust. With the rock faces of the mountain closing in on both sides like the gates of Argonath, backcountry skiers and snowboarders find themselves navigating a landscape unlike many others. A landscape that arouses admiration and the desire to travel for nature. Yet when the clouds rumble and darken, and snow falls from the sky like hissing icy dumplings, it’s time to take cover. Remember to stay safe there and use avalanche precautions and smart driving even in late season/summer skiing. Are you stupid, I will send it anyway! »
