Santa Barbara resident Adam Brown, 61, died shortly after suffering a medical incident while kitesurfing near Leadbetter Beach on Thursday, April 7. Brown was reportedly found unresponsive in the water near Leadbetter Beach by other kiteboarders in the area, who were able to report the condor-express, a whale-watching boat, to board Brown. Others on the boat performed CPR and contacted the Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol as they brought Brown ashore.

Brown was taken to Cottage Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later. It is unclear what caused the initial emergency that knocked Brown unconscious in the water. There will be a paddle outing in his honor on April 24 at 1 p.m.
