New surf business launched in Sonoma

Founded by longtime local surfer Dave Eilert, a new Sonoma company launched last week provides expert surf instruction ranging from a 90-minute introductory lesson to larger one-day packages.

A native of Sonoma, Eilert graduated from Sonoma Valley High in 1989. After 25 years in the medical industry, he decided to follow his true passion of “helping others discover the benefits of surfing for the mind, body and life. ‘soul,’ he said.

Wisewater surf lessons include instruction on safety, paddling technique and surf etiquette. Eilert offers solo lessons, group lessons and team building sessions for all ages. Prices include boards, wetsuits, towels and all equipment, and transportation is available.

The company goes beyond the waves to offer optional complementary experiences like after-beach craft beer and cider tastings, gourmet beach picnics at Delicious Dish, and transportation with local tourism companies.

The surf spots chosen vary depending on the weather, waves and the surfer’s experience. Some places include the beaches of Bolinas, Doran, Stinson, Pacifica, and Ocean.

Eilert’s team includes full-time instructors Graham Scheiblich and John Thompson, and part-time Chapman College first-year instructor Ruby Eilert.

With four decades of experience on the water, Eilert is convinced that surfing and spending time in the ocean not only improves fitness, but also clears the mind and acts as an emotional stabilizer.

Later, Eilert hopes to include specials for people with autism, veterans with PTSD, and downtown youth.

“Nothing else like this is on offer nearby,” Eilert said. “And it’s the dream of my life to share my love of surfing with others. “

Prices start at $ 175 for a 90-minute lesson.
