Mind Surfing: The Conner Coffin Story at the Premier on August 3

Hailing from Santa Barbara, California, Conner Coffin is known for his timeless, slick style. Following in the footsteps of other North Los Angeles greats like Dane Reynolds, Bobby Martinez and Tom Curren, Coffin has made a name for himself with his surfing and charming personality.

Directed by documentary filmmaker and surfer Keith Malloy (who also directed fish people and Come hell or high water), mind surfing presented by 805 Beer has been following Coffin’s surfing journey since he first paddled in Rincon at age four. Now, Coffin is considered the latest master of the style to emerge from the Central Coast and he claimed fourth in the world in 2021 to back up his reputation.

Coffin’s father exposed him to surfing from an early age and instilled in him values such as hard work, discipline and determination. Over the years, Coffin has put those values into place by humbly but wholeheartedly competing against his competitors, including his brother Parker. Although Coffin has had the privilege of traveling the world to surf, he owes much of his success to his roots and is grateful to have called the California coast home.

“No matter where I am on the globe doing what I love, nothing compares to coming home to California,” says Coffin. “It’s more than just a house. My roots are here. That’s why I’m grateful that 805 Beer decided to tell my story, they’re from where I’m from, they understand our culture so it was easy to trust them.

“It’s an honor to share and capture Conner’s story, as I’ve known the Coffin family for decades and wanted to commemorate all of the accomplishments,” director Keith Malloy said. “I hope viewers find his story as inspiring as I do. For many, he is one of the best surfers of this generation and mind surfing not only shares their professional background and professional achievements, but offers a true portrait of the person themselves.

The film is set to debut on August 3, 2022 at the Vans US Open. surfing at Huntington Beach.
