Hike, mountain biking and more this summer at Colorado hill stations
Come summer, ski trails will start to transform into downhill mountain biking courses, hiking trails and more in Colorado. Here’s a look at some of the hill stations with endless possibilities for adventure this summer:
Copper Mountain Ski Resort – Opening June 11, 2021
Scenic chair rides, ninja obstacle challenge, roller coasters, quad bungee jumping, pedal boats, climbing wall, go-kart races and ziplines make Copper Ski Resort Mountain an ideal summer destination.
Breckenridge Ski Resort – Opening June 18, 2021
Breckenridge Ski Resort will operate its Peak 8 Base Camp and Alpine Camp. Bikers can ride the Colorado SuperChair for epic descents, and others can take various chairlifts to access the alpine toboggan, roller coasters, ropes courses and more.
Winter Park Resort – Opening June 19, 2021
At Winter Park Resort, visitors can ride the gondola up to 10,700 feet for sweeping views of the Continental Divide and the Fraser Valley. Grab a few snacks at the Sunspot Lodge at the top, then embark on a wildflower journey through Fantasy Meadow. The Fraser River Trail is ideal for mountain bikers of all skill levels, offering cyclists a scenic beauty of 6.3 miles. For more extreme descents, experienced cyclists can explore over 40 miles of trails at Winter Park Resort’s famous Trestle Bike Park. At Snow Mountain Ranch, hikers can reach a beautiful waterfall along the 3 mile Waterfall Trail. Descend the mountain slopes aboard the resort’s Alpine Slide, a winding 3,000-foot-long track.
Keystone Resort – Opening June 24, 2021 (Thursday to Sunday)
Summer activities at the Keystone Resort include the downhill mountain biking park and two golf courses. Hiking trails will also be open at the Keystone Resort, along with many other activities such as scenic elevator rides, bungee trampolines, and gemstone panoramas at the base. Horseback riding and dining car rides will also be available.
Arapahoe Basin Ski Area – Opening June 25, 2021
The Arapahoe Basin ski area is inaugurating its brand new Via Ferrata, a roped climbing course that follows iron handles attached to the rock on its eastern wall. The ski area’s new Aerial Adventure Park will also be open Friday through Sunday starting Memorial Day weekend, after daily operations starting June 25. tables dressed in white for a four- or five-course meal that showcases local and seasonal foods. Yoga sessions on the Black Mountain Lodge terrace, scenic chairlift rides, a disc golf course, hiking and biking trails are also offered.
