GNTO promotes winter tourism in Greece through mountain skiing event
Aiming to promote Greece winter tourism options, the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) recently supported Pierra Crete international mountain skiing event.
A bi-annual mountaineering event, Pierra Creta was held on Mount Psiloritis on the island of Crete on March 4-5.
According to the General Secretary of the GNTO Dimitris Fragakisthe new strategy of the organization includes the promotion of winter tourism also by supporting and promoting events that highlight the winter season in Greece.
“Pierra Creta is an excellent international event organized for many years by a group of very active people in Crete… We will continue to support the race as such initiatives are proof that our country can offer excellent travel experiences and services to its visitors. during the winter,” he said.
More than 160 athletes participated in Pierra Creta this year. They came from 11 countries, namely Austria, Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, the United States, Germany, the Czech Republic, Norway, Italy, Slovenia and Greece, and competed on a slope of Mount Psiloritis, recorded by National Geographic as one of the top 100 descents in the world.
In addition, the race was covered by a group of specialist journalists from Austria, Italy and Germany.
Greece launched a winter marketing campaign last year promoting its mainland destinations. Under the title “Greece has a winter”, the campaign aims to promote winter tourism and all the activities that customers can enjoy during the season.
